Minor in Leadership Development

Why is SDSU offering a minor in Leadership Development?

As one of only a handful of universities offering a minor in Leadership Development, we recognize the important role that leadership plays in shaping our world.  Leadership in every form (educational, political, corporate) has a significant impact on our quality of life, and the need for leaders in every discipline resonates throughout the global community.  We recognize that today's graduates can truly distinguish themselves by being prepared to meet the challenges of leadership in the modern world.  Our comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to leadership education has been designed to give you the tools you need to meet these needs, transform your future career and build a better world for us all.

What will I learn?

Dedicated faculty with leadership experience will help you explore a variety of different leadership theories and encourage critical thinking skills related to the analysis of leadership styles and practices. The minor will increase your self-awareness through the exploration of your strengths, values, beliefs, culture and identity.  Today's leaders must distinguish between ethical and unethical leadership practices. Therefore, the minor in Leadership Development curriculum is grounded in the concepts of ethics, social justice, and social change.

What does the minor in Leadership Development consist of?

The minor consists of 20 units, designed purposefully as an interdisciplinary program. This allows you great flexibility to select elective courses that will most significantly impact your own major and preparation for your career. The minor provides opportunities to work with graduate students studying leadership. It is open to all students and is not a requirement for any major.
