Leadership nurtures the abilities of yourself and others, provides positive guidance and transforms individual and group convictions into ethical and socially responsible actions.
Mission Statement
The SDSU Center for Leadership promotes the development of ethical, socially responsible and culturally competent leaders who serve their local community and the world.
The Center will:
- Engage participants in the exploration, clarification, and integration of their values enabling them to transform their convictions into action
- Challenge participants to expand leadership skills and their global perspective
- Incorporate the values of diversity and social justice in the content and process of our programs
- Promote and infuse a culture of leadership throughout the university’s mission
The Center will accomplish this by:
- Providing educational opportunities both within and outside the classroom
- Provide opportunities to develop skills necessary to contribute to the betterment of our society
- Examining and implementing a variety of theoretical models of leadership
- Collaborating across the university and with community partners
- Conducting research, disseminating findings and using scholarship to inform practices

Founding Principles
- Understanding and developing personal strengths and convictions is a prerequisite to leadership
- Leadership potential can be identified, taught and developed
- Leadership must be based on ethical behavior, commitment to social justice and integrity
- Leadership is essential and present in all aspects of life
- Leadership is formal, informal and transcends hierarchical boundaries
- Leadership is necessary to engage positive social change
